How to book the Life in the UK Test

You book the Life in the UK Test online through the official gov.uk service. Here's how the process works, what it costs, and what to bring.

How to book

Bookings are made online on the official gov.uk Life in the UK Test page. You create an account, choose a test centre, and pick an available date and time. You must book at least three full days in advance.

How much does it cost?

The test fee is £50. You pay when you book, and you pay again each time you re-sit. Check gov.uk for the current fee, as it can change.

What to bring on the day

You will not be allowed to take the test unless you bring:

  • Valid photo ID — usually the same one you used to book (for example a passport or biometric residence permit)
  • Proof of your current address, such as a recent utility bill or bank statement

Arrive early. If you are late, bring the wrong ID, or the name on your ID doesn't match your booking, you may lose your fee and have to book again.

Before you book

Don't book until you are passing practice tests comfortably — the fee is non-refundable. Try our practice tests first, and check the pass mark and format so you know what to expect.
