Life in the UK Test pass mark and format

The Life in the UK Test pass mark is 18 out of 24 — that's 75%. Here's exactly how the test is structured and what to expect on the day.

What is the pass mark?

You must answer at least 18 of the 24 questions correctly to pass. That works out to 75%. Getting 17 or fewer correct is a fail.

Test format at a glance

  • Questions: 24 multiple-choice questions
  • Time limit: 45 minutes
  • Pass mark: 18 out of 24 (75%)
  • Format: on a computer at an approved test centre
  • Result: given immediately after you finish

What do the questions look like?

Most questions ask you to choose the single correct answer from four options. Some ask you to decide whether a statement is true or false, and a few ask you to select two correct answers. Our practice tests include all of these question types so there are no surprises.

What happens if I fail?

If you don't pass, you can book and take the test again. There is no limit on the number of attempts, but you pay the test fee each time and must wait at least seven days between attempts. The best way to avoid re-sitting is to practise until you score well above 18 out of 24 consistently.
